Final Reflection
- What have I learnt in this module?
This module is a very different one for me because I came from a different school (school of engineering) and everything about it is totally different. The environment, learning style, software, documentation, and marking scheme. Because of this, I had to be aware of this module with the help of the module information booklet at the beginning of the semester itself. I learnt a lot of design principles and creative use of elements throughout the semester. Although I am not the best when it comes to designing, I did learn how to be creative, quick-witted, and gain a lot of design knowledge which I find very useful in my future undertakings and tasks.
- What did I enjoy the most?
Sadly, I only had the experience of attending weekly classes online. However, it was fun nonetheless because of the interactive and active ongoing class sessions every single week. I really like the way the consultation sessions were conducted because we each get to message our lecturer on a weekly basis and whoever submits their work/link first will be reviewed. With that, I also like how all our works were reviewed live during classes so that we can all learn and get inspired by one another. Overall, it was a fun experience and I enjoyed the learning process from the lectures, exercises, and projects.
- What did I not enjoy the most?
Sadly, I need to mention this once again because it really affects the entire learning experience and environment. The part I did not enjoy the most is not being able to meet my lecturer and classmates physically. Not only that, this means that I missed out on a lot of opportunities to work together with my peers and exchange ideas when completing our projects and exercises. There is no solution to this but to wait patiently, hoping that things will get better and all the classes will slowly be conducted physically.
- What have I learnt about myself through this module?
I actually did not expect myself to be very indecisive all the time. Woops! I always come up with a design but then I would eventually do more research and probably come up with a compilation of many different design compositions. I think that this has pros such that I like to try out many different styles and designs, but I think that it has more cons because I get very stressed and indecisive all the time, causing me to overthink and think that I did bad. This is still a learning process for me and I hope to develop better decision-making skills in the future.
- What has changed and what has not in my learning journey?
This is a very hard question to answer, but I think that what has changed in this journey is the consistency of my design progress. Sometimes, I may like a particular design that I have produced, but others would not like it and vice versa. I think this would affect us, designers mentally and sometimes create a less desired outcome at the very end. Therefore, I feel like I create excellent work sometimes and vice versa which would create this inconsistency in my design output. What has definitely not changed throughout this journey is my eagerness to learn new things. I would always want to explore more new things and also try out many different design ideas.
- What could be improved in this module?
To follow up with my comment above, I feel like it could be made better if we can obtain feedback from more than one lecturer or maybe open up to collecting feedback from my peers. I think this way would create a mixture of different opinions and a combination of potential changes to upgrade and progress faster. It may not work, but it is a suggestion from my side that I think would be very useful. Basically, opening up and getting more feedback from more individuals.
