WEEK 9: LECTURE

Figure 1.1: Class session on week 9 (18th October 2021)

In this week's class session, Mr. Fauzi went through the new chapter, which is about DIGITAL SURREALISM. After the lecture session, we took our attendance and then proceeded with the consultation session on our Project 2B. All the feedback that I have gotten was documented down below and the progress in the progress section. However, there was no tutorial this week but we were told to download and be ready with the Adobe After Effects software by the next class.

Lecture Notes (Digital Surrealism):

Realism - this takes the subject matters of the ordinary and common world in which we call reality. It normally takes a non-exotic and non-extraordinary subject matter and theme.

Surrealism - this is a twist in realism with subject matters concentrating on dream images and often distorts the ordinary and what we call reality. It defies logic. Dreams and the workings of the subconscious mind inspire surrealistic art.

Juxtaposition - the combination of 2 things through placing close together with contrasting effect.

Strategy to creating surrealism artworks:
1. dream-like scenes ad symbolic images
2. utilising unexpected, illogical juxtapositions
3. using bizarre assemblages of ordinary objects
4. using primitive or child-like designs

Steps:
1. Sketching the layout (draw our vision out roughly with the key points assessed)
2. Finding reference images (this step will help us to get inspiration and generate new ideas)
3. Asking 'Does this look real?" (making sure that the design looks convincing enough to be real)
4. Making it happen based on our ability (try to approach something challenging)
