WEEK 6: LECTURE

Figure 1.1: Class session on week 6 (27th September 2021)

In this week's class session, Mr. Fauzi Yusoff started off the class with a more detailed explanation of last week's assignment, which was the placement of Shazam and our portrait in the Hearst Mansion with the use of Adobe Photoshop software. In this week, we would continue to the second part which is exercise 3 (recolouring black & white photo). With a more detailed demonstration and the supply of a video tutorial created by Mr. Martin (Link), we get to complete exercise 2 part 1 in week 6. Then, the consultation session was done where Mr. Fauzi Yusoff viewed all our progress individually for Project 2B. By this week, we were supposed to complete up until the research phase and come up with a brief proposal to the theme, idea, description, and call to action for our poster design which is related to mental health.

A Public Service Announcement (PSA) is a message in the public interest disseminated without charge, and having the objective to raise awareness, so as to change public attitudes and behaviour towards a social issue.

Creating a helpful and functional poster to raise awareness so as to overcome an issue will need to be organised and systematic. We need to:

1. Research about our topic by gathering a bunch of related information and write a summary about the chosen topic. With the key points highlighted and understood, we can then define the title, slogan, details, and call for action.

2. Define your concept is done by sketching a mock-up poster that will become a pre-layout or pre-composition to further fill in details and slogan. We can also try out different approaches such as adding a bit of humour / heartwarming message, subtle artistic effect, and graphics.

3. Start to develop our design projects by implementing different creative ideas and concepts. We can start off with sketched and then brought into digital form. Some other elements can be tested through trial and error such as the colour, typography, textures, and effects. Then, we can do some colour correction once everything is finalised.

Figure 2.1: Video tutorial provided by Mr. Martin

For week 6's task, we were all assigned to complete Exercise 2 Part 1 which covers the topic of using the tools to colour black and white images in Adobe Photoshop software. This assignment is supported by the video demonstration supplied by Mr. Martin as shown above and the picture can be retrieved through this Link. The progress of me colouring the assigned image to colour is documented below:
